Surgery
If your doctor has recommended surgery for you, you will sign a consent form and fill out a detailed form that the anesthesiologists will need to provide safe care for you during your procedure. They may book you to speak with them on the phone or in person, or if they don't have any questions for you then you will have a chance to meet them and ask questions when you arrive in the pre-op area at Peace Arch Hospital. You may need to complete some blood work, and this will be arranged a few days prior to your scheduled surgery. Other pre-op instructions and information will be provided by the front desk and the hospital by both verbal instruction and patient handouts. Please ask us if you have questions or concerns.
The waitlist for surgery is typically weeks to months. You may be able to access a date more quickly if you are available on short notice. Our staff will ensure that you are contacted as soon as we have a date for you once your paperwork is complete. If you need to cancel or postpone a surgery for any reason please let our office know as soon as possible so the time can be allocated to another patient.
Your arrival time will be confirmed with you by phone the day prior to your booked date, and you will need to arrange a ride home from the hospital. Occasionally a patient's surgery may be cancelled at the last minute due to unplanned emergencies or other issues beyond our control. This cannot be predicted, and we acknowledge that having to re-schedule your life and support persons around a change in a booked surgery date can be very stressful. The doctors and staff at the hospital and the office appreciate your understanding, and will do their best to take excellent care of you and re-book you as soon as possible.
